Better Looking LinkedIn Content for All

With a growing user base, generous organic reach, and an effective advertising platform, LinkedIn is poised to be the social network in 2020. As I scroll through my feed, I frequently notice two errors that hamper how content is displayed. Here are two quick tips to ensure your content looks as professional as LinkedIn is.

Avoid Fading to Gray

Scheduling content in advance through third-party platforms, like Hootsuite, is an easy way to share valuable content more consistently. However, if you’re scheduling a post with a photo as the primary visual, make sure that it is the appropriate size for LinkedIn. If it’s the wrong size, it will have gray spaces on the sides of the image.

PRO TIP: If you’re sharing a photo that is not 1200x628, publish it directly through LinkedIn to avoid (or limit) the gray spaces on the sides of your image.

Check Your Link Previews

Link previews can be finicky. If you’re sharing a link to a page that does not have a photo or the photo is too small, your link preview will suffer. In some cases, your photo may be auto cropped, which can create some awkward moments.

PRO TIP: Use photos on your website that are 1200x628 to yield a large link preview on LinkedIn. If you’re sharing content from an external webpage that features a less-than-optimal photo, consider sharing an image instead; you can include the link in your post copy.  

BONUS TIP: Use a debugger tool to customize the images in your link previews.
